Energy audit subsidies in Europe 2026

Six EU countries offer active funding programmes for EED Article 11 energy audits. Subsidies can reduce costs by 40–80% — but each programme has different conditions, timing requirements, and exclusions.

Before

When BAFA application must be submitted relative to the audit

The most important rule is timing. Germany's BAFA programme requires the application to be submitted and approved before the audit begins. Companies that miss this step pay full market price — typically €6,000–€8,500 — with no recourse.

DEBAFA Energieberatung Mittelstand: Auditor must be on BAFA Expertenliste. Application APPROVED before audit begins — non-negotiable.
LUFit 4 Sustainability (Luxinnovation): Auditor must be on Luxinnovation accredited list. Application before audit required.
BEAMUREBA (Wallonia only): Auditor must hold AMUREBA label (Walloon regional certification — separate from national and EU qualifications).
CYANAD Energy Audit Subsidy: 2 mandatory ANAD seminars must be completed before application. Auditor certified Cat. A/B/C as appropriate.
IESEAI Energy Audit Voucher: SME only. Transport companies likely excluded — SEAI explicitly excludes fuel consumption from vehicle fleets.
NLEIA (Energie-investeringsaftrek): Applies to implemented energy efficiency investments, NOT audit cost. Min. 1 measure implemented within 24 months of audit.

How to apply — per programme

Each programme has a different process. The steps below are critical — incorrect sequencing forfeits the subsidy.

DEBAFA Energieberatung Mittelstand

  1. 1Select an auditor from the BAFA Expertenliste (mandatory — unlisted auditors disqualify the application)
  2. 2Submit online application at bafa.de before the audit begins
  3. 3Wait for Zuwendungsbescheid (approval notice) — typically 4–8 weeks
  4. 4Only after receiving approval: commission the audit
  5. 5Submit completed audit report to BAFA within the deadline
Step 3 must precede Step 4. Audits conducted before receiving approval are not eligible for subsidy regardless of other compliance.

LUFit 4 Sustainability (Luxinnovation)

  1. 1Verify the auditor is on Luxinnovation's accredited consultant list
  2. 2Submit application through Luxinnovation portal
  3. 3Commission the audit after application acknowledgement
  4. 4Submit completed report and invoices to Luxinnovation
  5. 5Receive reimbursement after verification
Auditors not on the Luxinnovation list are not eligible — check before engagement.

BEAMUREBA (Wallonia only)

  1. 1Confirm auditor holds AMUREBA label (separate regional certification — standard EU certifications insufficient)
  2. 2Application submitted by the company (not the auditor)
  3. 3Commission the audit
  4. 4Submit report and supporting documents to SPW Énergie
  5. 5Receive reimbursement at approved rate (75% SME / 60% large)
Wallonia only. AMUREBA label is required — it is distinct from all national and EU-level certifications.

CYANAD Energy Audit Subsidy

  1. 1Complete 2 mandatory ANAD seminars
  2. 2Select certified auditor (Category A, B, or C as appropriate for the audit type)
  3. 3Commission and complete audit
  4. 4Submit report and invoices to ANAD
  5. 5Receive flat €4,000 reimbursement
Seminars must be completed before application. Auditor must hold the correct category certification.

IESEAI Energy Audit Voucher

  1. 1Confirm company is an SME (required)
  2. 2Confirm audit scope does not consist primarily of transport fuel (likely excluded)
  3. 3Apply for voucher through SEAI online portal
  4. 4Commission the audit
  5. 5Submit for reimbursement of up to €2,000
Transport companies are likely ineligible — SEAI explicitly excludes fuel consumed away from business premises from qualifying expenditure.

NLEIA (Energie-investeringsaftrek)

  1. 1Note: EIA applies to implemented energy efficiency investments — not the audit cost itself
  2. 2Commission energy audit (no subsidy for audit cost)
  3. 3Review audit recommendations
  4. 4Implement qualifying energy efficiency measure from the EIA list
  5. 5Apply 40% tax deduction on the investment value through annual tax return
EIA is an investment tax deduction, not an audit subsidy. Implementation must follow within 24 months.

Markets with vs without subsidies

Markets with active subsidies

LU (60–80%), BE-Wallonia (75%), DE (80%), CY (€4k), IE (€2k), NL (40% deduction)

Net client cost after subsidy: €2,000–€5,500. Effivera's price advantage is partially offset.

Markets without subsidies

PL, CZ, LT, HR, SK, HU, RO, SI and most others

Full market price applies: €1,800–€7,750. Effivera at €1,900–€2,500 is 40–70% cheaper than the market average.

A subsidy is a sales argument — but only if the company applied on time. Companies that missed the BAFA application window pay full market price with no recourse. On those markets, Effivera is the most cost-effective option regardless of subsidy status.

No subsidy in your country? Effivera starts from €1,900.

In markets without subsidy programmes, Effivera is 40–70% cheaper than the market average. No site visit required in eligible countries. Stripe checkout, 25% deposit.
